Smith has both practical and
theoretical
knowledge of mechanical engineering, boiler operations
and most ancillary utility operations. His years of
service in the field (over 30) have provided excellent
practical experience which has only solidified the
theoretical knowledge he obtained in the classroom AND
on the job. Always seeking solutions to problems, Smith
is a meticulous and thorough researcher; has a succinct
ability to write and speak; and is totally dedicated to
safety. His dedication to educating others has allowed
him the distinction of becoming an internationally known
trainer. His clients and ‘students’ regard him as
“entertaining” yet one who can and does readily convey
the complexities of the field. Smith, a native of
Central Ohio, studied at The Ohio State University, Ohio
University and Purdue University.
His BSME from Purdue
University was achieved while working in the Planning
and Engineering Department at the University and shortly
after his combat service in the United States Marine
Corp (Viet Nam veteran). He has a non-thesis Masters of
Engineering degree from The Ohio State University and
worked in the OSU Utilities Department while completing
that degree. Smith obtained his P.E. (Professional
Engineer designation) in 1984. Smith is also a
practicing Boiler Operator holding a 3rd Class Operators
License (Ohio), an EPA Universal Certificate and a pilot
